The previous iPod mount was technically a success, as it worked and got the iPod out of the way of the shifter. The only negative was that it was really low next to the instruments and behind the steering wheel where I couldn’t see it easily.
So the only thing to do was to try again. The parts are simple: binder clip, 1″ PVC pipe, iPod case, epoxy, and flat black paint.
Just like last time, I epoxied the binder clip and case to the PVC pipe, which I made longer this time to get the iPod up to the same height as the A/C vent. After drying I painted the clip handles and PVC pipe flat black, 2 coats.
Here is a picture of the new mount.
I know it’s not as slick as a professional mount, but I am relying on the fact that it is mostly hidden when clipped into place. Besides, I don’t want to glue anything to the dash or drill holes to mount something. That would be overkill. We are talking about a little bitty iPod Nano.
Here is a picture with it mounted in the car.
The advantage of the old one is that the iPod case covered up the PVC pipe completely. I guess I need to buy a welder and take some shop classes so I can make something nifty out of metal.
