I had been asking Todd to change the motor mounts and he finally had time last Friday. This is a job I am glad I didn’t do myself, but now that I have seen it done I think I could do it. But I will need a better floor jack, since mine doesn’t go very high.
The job is definitely tedious, with jacking the engine up and down slightly a bunch of times to try and get stuff lined up. Here is a picture of Todd working on the car.
Note the 944 in the background. That is a different customer’s car. Very nice. To the right out of the picture are three other 944’s in various stages of work. In the garage is a euro-model 928 5-speed. It needs lots (lots) of work but is very sexy.
Here is a picture of the old motor mounts.
Todd said they didn’t look that bad, which is true, they don’t look as smashed as some I have seen pictures of. However these are the original motor mounts as they have “87″ stamped on them (1987, the car’s model year).
After starting and idling the car a few times since they were replaced, I can definitely tell a difference. The car used to feel like it was going to shake apart. Now it is very smooth.
