I got cold feet on replacing the timing belt myself and decided to have a local enthusiast/mechanic/924 owner do it.
He recommends having it done every 2 years or 30,000 miles. Not a bad idea since the darn thing is just rubber, and its failure will consign your engine to Porsche Heaven.
It was great to have him give the car a once-over, and I pointed out several nuts and clamps that were missing or jury-rigged. He also knew why the heater wouldn’t cut off, there was a valve missing under the hood and a cable was disconnected.
Taking the car to the mechanic also gave me my first opportunity to test drive it on the interstate. The wheels didn’t fall off and the brakes worked. It also goes around corners like other cars go down straightaways.
